I was super lucky when I visited Ireland. I got to stay and travel with my friend Donagh, who is native Irish and could show me around all the good spots! This photo was taken at some point during our drive around the Ring of Kerry. The landscape was so breath-taking, I could’ve stopped every 2 minutes to snap a shot…which we actually did in certain areas depending on the weather. It had rained everyday during the time that I was there. Whether it was for 5 minutes or the full day, there was always a call for rain. This hindered a lot of plans I had had for photographs, but thankfully along came a good break with sudden sunshine and a rainbow to follow. My remote had decided to end its life so a big thank you to Donagh, who then took on the role of my shutter release!

Katie and Brian

At the end of the summer I flew home to Nova Scotia, and took a road trip to New Brunswick to photograph one of my best friend’s wedding. Katie has been like a sister to me for many years so it meant a lot that I could be there and document her special day, and it truly was very special! Out on a farmers field, near Pleasant Villa, they were married by the Chief of the St. Mary’s First Nation. Brian gave Katie a bouquet of lavender to represent the comfort that she gives him, in exchange, she gave him a bouquet of eagle feathers to represent the strength that he brings forth in her. It was then that I realized how difficult shooting can be when your eyes are filled with tears! After the ceremony the live bands began, starting acoustically and ending with rockabilly and punk rock, all from family and good friends. It was a blast to say the least, and I wish Katie and Brian a long and loving life together!

Light Keeper

Growing up in the Maritimes I was entertained with stories of ghost ships and spirits of the sea. Sailors, fisherman, and townspeople have passed these tales from generation to generation. A Light Keeper (or Lighthouse Keeper) would care for the lighthouse when oil lamps and clockwork mechanisms were used. He would have many responsibilities and therefore would live in the lighthouse. In modern times technology has eliminated the need for Lighthouse keepers.
This image represents the spirit of the Light Keeper, who remains on the coast to insure safe guidance for the ships near shore.

Kyla and Preston

I was delighted when Kyla, Preston, and I met for coffee for the first time. They described Fort Edmonton Park to me; the old village, farm animals, horse and buggies, dirt roads, train tracks, etc. They explained how perfectly it would suit the 1940′s clothing they would be wearing, and their vintage themed wedding. At the time I had not been to the park and had no idea what I was in for, until months later on their wedding day when I arrived. It was a beautiful and intimate ceremony with just family, followed by a walk around the park for photographs, and a celebratory dinner and dance by the fire. I could have shot for hours and hours with such inspiring scenery and a wonderful couple!

Eunika and Matthew

Sandy Phimester and I had the wonderful opportunity to take a road trip to Jasper and photograph Eunika and Matthew’s wedding. We had an amazing day with the two, their family and friends. Even though it rained the majority of the day when it was time to photograph the wedding-party it held off just in time to catch some great shots with the gorgeous organic backdrop. To say the least we had a wonderful time and we really could not have asked for more. We were very glad to be a part of and be able to capture such a special day.

So, a big thank you to Eunika and Matthew and we wish you all the best in your loving life together!!
